Just a bit out off topic, but for those who are interested about info of socialist era, situation was totaly different in each socialist country, when we speak of personal freedom or living conditions.
In Europe, worst was in USSR, those who came from USSR to former Czechoslovakia were shocked by the differences. And also situation was totaly different in 50s , 60s etc. When we speak of life standards in Czechoslovakia, the best times of socialist era were 80s. |

Ha, ha I remember that era very well as a teeneger, teenegers in Czechoslovakia were strongly divided into the Depeche Mode fans dressed in black and Heavy Metal fans dressed in old jeans with some metal pieces and chains etc. It was common that many disco parties ended with clashes between those groups, it was not problem to come home in saturday night with broken nose, or some "blue monocle" around eyes made by someone fist.

That is brutal
At that time, my number one band was The Beatles, so I had no problems with Metal fans - I had long hairs, nor Depeche Mode fans, because both groups accepted Beatles as a legend. But my second favourite was Depeche Mode followed by A-HA and Duran Duran.
At that time, to step in pub (full of Iron Maiden fans) dressed in black and with Dave Gahan hairstyle cut, equaled voluntary suicide. |

Well, actually, this is still not quite what we had in Russia before mid-80th. I'm not gonna flood this thread with my memories of "good old times" though.
On a serious note, I understand the reasons behind most restrictions but not all. Seriously: "the owner must be either married or widowed..." - where does this come from? This is why we are not moving there - I like a bit more freedom. After all, can you imagine submitting plans to the architecture committee specifying locations of 60 citrus plants, 50 fruit trees/shrubs, and a compost pile in the backyard!? I bet they would have a heart attack over that - it would simply be inhuman to infest such an upscale gated community with a crazy fruit grower (me). |
Married or widowed, citizen, probably un-enforceable. They used to have deed restrictions on race as well. They are only enforceable by someone suing you anyway. Why would someone want to sue a nice guylike GT. (although with a very heavy slavic accent, endearing to me as my grandfather came from Mother Russia in 1917)
I've quizzed GT a couple times about the good old Soviet days. Quite entertaining! For those of you who don't know GT(Gleb) grew up in the USSR under Communism until an adult before joining us here in the Land of the Free. |
Phil, thank you very much for being nice to me! It was my pleasure to answer your quizzes. Hopefully, I won't be sued for my accent.
Regarding the enforcement, the paper states that every sale must be approved by the association and a proof of citizenship must be submitted. I was surprised that they do not check marriage certificate. Anyway, we agreed with my Missis that that neighborhood seems too fancy for us, foreigners.
Radoslav, I agree that all socialist countries were different, yet the "main idea" was the same. Plus, we did have too these groups of metal fans (real men) and pop fans in late 80th. Have they broken your nose? |

No, no. as I said officially I was a Beatles fan with long hairs, so no problems with "metalists", but some of my friends with Dave Gahan hairstyle and small earrings tasted their fists pretty badly. |
