Anyone here planning on pruning any of their fig trees?
Or, a better question, Anybody have any unusual fig trees that need some cuttings taken from?
I have the usual, Celeste, Brown Turkey, etc.
I am looking for any of the more exotic.
Please let me know what you have.
I will gladly pay postage. I have been checking out E-bay, they have some great varieties available. The problem is, you either get lots of the same variety or they are very expensive. I only want a couple of many varieties, and hopefully cheap postage!
Thanks!

I hate to jump on someone elses thread but if there turns out to be a surplus of users who will be pruning, i would also be intersted (after of course cactusrequim gets what he needs).

Cactusrequim,
What varieties are you hoping to get?
In Charleston are you limited to the closed eye type?
My trees are too small to take cuttings. I have Brown Turkey, LSU Purple, Lemon? and Strawberry? (supposed to be an Italian heirloom variety). _________________ Charles in Pensacola

Darkman, another fig variety that I believe would do well in your area is Col de Dame White fig. It is vary rain tolerant, and fruits well during periods of heavy rain, even with water below the tree. Two additional major advantages of the Col de Dame fig, the sweet taste of the fruit is not reduced due to the fruits absorption of water, plus it almost never ever splits, due to the combination of a small eye and thick skin. It is a late season fig, but this should not be a problem in your area. Many growers claim Col de Dame is the best tasting fig in their collection. -Millet (378 ABO-) |

Thanks Millet,
Based one your description I'll have to acquire that one. I have not heard of it before. Millet can you suggest a source. I'm good with cuttings or I'll buy a plant. _________________ Charles in Pensacola

I will. I just sent an e-mail to a member of Figs 4 Fun that has them. I did a little research after your recommendation. How is it that this fig is not well known? It sounds like a perfect match for the SE climate. Found several recommendations for anything south of I-10 in Louisanna which has my climate.
I'll check the link for availability too.
EDIT
I just checked and no luck! _________________ Charles in Pensacola

hi Charles,
Col de Dame varieties are black, gray and white.
Just got some Col de Dame Noir (black) cuttings from a scion exchange.
I have some that I can send you. Was told the black taste & sweetness is equal to White.

Ken,
That would be great and much appreciated. I have not received any of the Col de Dame yet. I hope it will do well down here. Maybe I'll get something you need so I can return the favor. I sent you a PM.
Many thanks, _________________ Charles in Pensacola
