I just did a 80% water change on my indoor fish tank... I usually use the water in my garden.. but thought of those who said they have used theirs for their citrus..

Do any of you use aquarium salt in your tanks??
Salt is the ONLY chemical I use in my tank.. at a rate of 1tbs per 10 gal..
I also only use bottled water to replace tank water...

If you use aquarium salt in your tank what if any thing do you do about the salt when watering your citrus??
Is there a way to test Salt content in water??
Do you use the fish water then later flush the pot to remove salt??
Just curious.. I'm putting the water in my garden as usual.. I'd rather not risk the salt toxicity right now.. but would like to know if others have addressed this issue..
any input welcome.. fish tank owners and non fish tank owners alike..

Gina, with taking care of kids, plants, house & hubby, you have salt water fish?! That alone is very time consuming...high maintainance. I love the fish but,... no way Jose'. Just my opinion is not to use the salt water on citrus plants. Does it do any noticable good to your garden?
You have a small pond with fish, I'd use that water for the citrus-- I do it all the time, besides water from my rain barrel.
How big is your indoor fishtank? I used to breed angel fish & once in awhile I'd stir up the water & take a few pitchurs of water to feed my house pplants..I'd replace it with tap water.
Anyway, I wouldn't use salt water on citrus. Use your pond water.
Just my opinion

The tank is only 20 gal.. They are "fresh" water fish.. the salt improves gill function and helps retard tank algae growth..
Sorry.. I was wrong about the salt content.. is only 1/2tbs per 10 gal..
I also use salt in the pond outside.. every one who sees my pond is amazed at how clean it is.. no mucky water.. crystal clear.. can see the white gravel rocks on the bottom.. I thank the fish that eat the moss type algae and the salt and filter that keep the murky water algae gone.. and I use NO chemicals other than salt inside and out.. have had healthy happy "fresh water" fish for yrs now.. In fact.. I have baby gold fish, koi, and shubunkin in the pond now!!! gonna need to find new homes for them.. pond is gonna be over crowded soon.. I have plaites, mollies and guppies inside..
any time I've not had salt to add to the tank I notice the tank gets dirty lots quicker... I don't even use charcoal in the tank filter.. I have not lost a fish to "new tank" syndrome since I stopped using charcoal and started using salt.. I use bottled water so I don't have to dechlorinate the water..
I do a 20% water change about ever other month and 80% water change every 6 months.. I add no new salt during the 20% water changes.. and I do a total tank change about every other yr or so..
The water outside gets changed by rain now and then.. I add new salt to it about every 2 months or so.. if it doesn't rain for a while I have to add water usually only about 5% or less so it is regular tap water.. (still use no dechlorinator) but I haven't seen adverse effects.. Pond water has been changed 4 times 100% (not including first initial get the dang thing level change once a week for a month ) in 7 yrs. aside from that.. filter cleaning once a month- twice a month yr round.. and just watch the pretty fish swim around.. I even run filter/ fountain in winter.. have been using same filter/ pump for all these yrs.. one of these days I'm going to have lights for my pond.. have the fountain lit at night.. that would be pretty..
anyway.. guess I'll just stick to pouring the water on my garden.. I have never seen any bad effects on the plants I have there..
