What is everyone's opinion of this 2012 Mayan EOL deal? Before I make myself look like a nut job, I would like to know what you guys think?

2012 Mayan EOL is just another Y2K all over again. If I had $100 dollars for every time the end of the world was predicted I would be rich. If the Mayans were so smart how come their civilization died out? The end of the world was last January 21, 2009. - Millet (1,148-)

Well SPIT,,, I guess were all dead.. I might as well stop working and quit!

Well my conspiracy theory is that Obama will loose the election and decide on a N.W.O. on or about that time frame.

Personally, I'm ready for the rapture in 2012.

My two cents worth:

2012....hmmmm.... let's imagine for a moment that the time line is right on as to the event. So what? What kind of preparation would one make to survive such a happening? Who would be able to deliver everyone from the consequences/result of such a cataclysmic event? Where would be the place of escape?

I haven't seen the movie "2012". I have observed the mindset of people I know that saw the movie "Left Behind" and they believed it to be gospel truth. That movie was in fact 'truth left behind'. Don't believe me....check the book cover. It plainly says: FICTION
It boldly contradicted scripture, the word of God, contained in the Bible, which I firmly believe. In this movie's wake was left a devious deception about what the future holds and how it is to take place....and it is accepted as TRUTH.

The 2012 theory is a continuum of this same evil deception. If someone is deceived as to the way something is going to happen and when it is going to happen, then they also fail in making the right preparations in order to be ready for it. Want more evidence? What more cataclysmic event could there be than a world-wide flood?

Consider Noah in the Bible. He preached for 120 years there was going to be a flood. He was derided and insulted because he had the gall to say it was going to rain. Imagine that.... rain! I can see all the scientists and naysayers having their little conventions and news reports deriding his shipbuilding progress and giving all their reasoning's as to why it wasn't necessary to get on board. Why there wasn't a cloud in the sky! But look....look at those animals....what is going on? Silently they come two by two and walk aboard that ark. I'm sure the scientists had a good time with that event. I can imagine the little thrill of horror that crept into their mind....what if.... it is true? When all was done and in readiness, Noah stands at the door of that ship, and pleads one last time, come on...get in, only to be mocked to scorn and he turns and disappears inside. Suddenly, an unseen hand closes that massive door and it is forever shut. Probation has closed for those people and they know it not. That ship sat there for seven days before the first drop fell. I can see the people outside knocking on the ship's exterior, laughing and mocking. First a drop, then two or three....and then the deluge began. You probably know the rest of the story. As those wicked people were first in knee deep, then waist deep water, then having to swim, I wonder what their thoughts were then? Who could they blame.....they loved and believed a lie!

So it will be at the end of this earth as we know it. This same deception is already being sown and is reaping it's baleful harvest. The Bible says this, that those who really want to know truth will ask for it and they will find it, but the class of people who don't want it, neither seek for it, will be the ones sneering at the preparations of those honest ones who are. They are willingly deceived and will get their just reward. All the babblings of 2012 are a smoke screen to hide the real end of the world and preparations needed to make a real escape.

Extra two cents worth: oh yes....remember the ark's door was shut for seven days before the first drop fell? That means for one full week, those people were totally doomed and they didn't even know it. So it was that they ate and drank til the rain came and took them all away.
Could it be that here at the end that there is also a closing of a certain door when our destiny is sealed and and set for eternity? I know the answer but do you? 2012......truth or deception?

(I do realize there is a distinction between the movie and the historical Mayan Calendar. I am not equating the two)

I've heard a couple of Mayans (they're still around) explain that their calendar has been widely misunderstood. It's not going to be the end of the world.

On the other hand we are supposed to reach the next solar maximum about 2013 or thereabouts so it's not inconceivable that we would face an increased risk for a coronal mass ejection hitting the Earth. A direct hit would turn out the lights for most or all of the planet. The risk is pretty low, but not zero.

Other than that the only other real danger we will face is the 2012 presidential election. As that involves a great deal of irrational human behavior all bets are off as to what may come of that.
