Here are some of the pawpaws the possums didn't get. hey have been nice to leave me some of the seeds. (I've got my live trap out as they have been feasting on grapes, pears, and jiro persimmons.) The one closest to the bottom is a Neal Peterson Rappahanok , doesn't seem to be any bigger than the others like he advertises. Most are a SE Texas native selected by a friend along the Sabine River somewhere. Note one cluster has 7 fruit. This is my first year for more than a few after waiting 5 or 6 years! I have the Peterson, Naomi's Delicious, Texas selection and a few others in the works. The tree grows about a foot a year.
I've been somewhat disappointed in my Neal Peterson trees. My order came wrong and one had to be re-shipped. It turned out to be a runt, didn't grow and died the next spring. The one tree was nice and big and this is it's second year. I wish the other one was as good.
nice job Mr. Texas,
I've a couple paw paws, their first year in the ground. They are Wilson and Wells varieties purchased at Burnt Ridge Nursery, nice plants growing fairly well so far. It is going to be a long wait for fruit though. If you have time would you post a pic of a fruit cut open? Flavor?

Flavor is unique, texture like avocado, tastes of tropical, bananas, mangos. Fragrance can be overpowering. Fruit to the left is an unripe one chewed by a possum. Seeds to the right came from fruit on the right. Lots of seeds but not much of a nuisance! I was wanting to leave them on the tree until they dropped but the possums came. I caught one last night, he had a drunk in my rain barrel.
