I've been trying to grow a number of citrus cultivars in my not very citrusy climate. Of course the results aren't exactly spectacular when it comes to fruit taste.
That makes me wonder if I would have better success with early ripening satsumas, as satsumas have less heat requirement.
Any opinions? _________________ - Marc |

Possibly, however, with satsumas (unshiu) you have to wait a 4-5 years. Young trees do not have fruits as tasty as "mature" ones.
How lemon goes there ? _________________

Meyer lemons do fairly well here, but I didn't get any this past season.
I currently have 2 feminello lemons growing but those aren't ripe yet, so I don't know how they will turn out... _________________ - Marc |

As your fruits will be more sour than sweet, you better choose sweet ones, and still can use them like lemons ... |

Marc, you are right, unshiu (satsuma) mandarins are flagships in most Slovak and Czech collections, because of early ripening (especially wase - early and goku wase - very early cultivars)
and bacause of cold tolerance and good flavour in our climate conditions. |
