Hi,

I have had a meiwa kumquat in a container for roughly two years now and so far i've been pretty successful. I live in NYC so it comes inside during the winter and goes back onto the balcony when the sun angle provides full sun(april-november). Up until this past summer i had been removing any fruit that's formed so the tree could put all of it's energy into new growth but decided to leave 7 fruit this past july. I brought the tree in 4 weeks ago and put it under a CFL for supplemental light as i don't have a sunny windows. The fruit are turning orange and it seems to be doing very well but maybe a little too well? On friday i noticed a dozen or so new branches starting to form!

Is it normal for there to be new growth while fruit it on the tree? Will this have any adverse effects? Should i remove the fruit? Remove the branches? or just leave it as is?

OH and HI, i'm new here!

Astroquat, thanks for joining the forum. It is normal for kumquats to grow and have fruit on them. Just let it grow, it sounds like you are doing a good job and the tree is happy.
