Does anyone grow citrus inground during the warm months, then move indoors for the winter? I just planted a bearrs lime to see if I get increased growth, being inground vs the container trees

couple of questions, how often do you water when inground? best ways to fertilize? and really... just any pointers would be good.

before planting, I dug up the soil which feels more sandy that anything... but is holding on to a olt of moisture right now... in an area that has yet to get watered this spring. I mixed in some compost I got from my parents and left it for a bit,,, then today I mixed it all up really good and planted my tree a little higher than it was in the pot. I've removed all grass from the area and covered the area with landscape paper and then covered with lava rocks (that ok?) more for decorative than anything, very pretty rocks.

I'm hoping my tree will be ok. I also planted up some flying dragon seeds and seedlings as I'll be doing an experiment this winter, keeping them INground all year round... obviously not the lime though!.... but.. ya never do know. lil tree, easy to create some sort of greenhouse around it.... hmmmm.... Wink the mind starts going....

any help.... greatly apreciated

All I know is that landscape fabric and rocks do not mix! I have a couple of gardens with decorative rock like that and now I am replanted and the ground is almost like rock it is so compacted. Also with the landscape fabric the roots of tree and plants tend to grow right at the surface makeing the vunerable. But it may be different for you gardens.

the rocks I am using are so incredibly light, I dont think they'd compact the soil much. But, its something I'll watch out for... or potentially even remove that and the fabric. Iguess I just loved the look of it... and teh fact I wont get weeds. The ladscape fabric I'm using is just like a fine mesh, water and stuff go through, but suposed to prevent weeds

Trees sure perked up overnight though... they are very happy. I made the decision late yesterday and actually planted all my trees inground.

Good for you, who knows how well they will do but it will be interesting. My fabric was the same as yours and it allowed what but my rocks were different and heavy so your results may differ. Anyways good luck with them.
