I listened to her speech today and I think she's hot too! Surprised
She is a no BS, down to earth, outspoken, honest & hard working woman. I like her better than Obama AND McCain ...who doesn't remember that he owns 7 homes! He made a good choice.

Sara Palin was pregnant with a down baby, and refused all the advice to have an abortion, now she has a beautiful child. She also has an older son in the U.S. Military being deployed next month. Great great great choice of a decent honest human being. She can come to Denver anytime. - Millet

When one comes to a "Citrus growers forum" it is very hard to hear such extreme right wing speech.
Is it a spell on American citrus growers that makes them all believers and right wing?
I know that most of citrus growers are in the "bible belt", but California is known to have "awaken" people. There is not even one little citrus grower of California that will say that he doesn't agree with what is said about politics on this forum?
I feel alone.

So, if I hear you, no one will vote for Obama?

Shocked Your eyelids are getting very heavy!!

I, and assume others, have tried to keep my political beliefs away from this forum. Its hard to grow good citrus when you are sowing sour grapes. While I don't agree with some of the more conservative folks here on their politics, I like them. I've learned much about large scale farming, water treatment facilities, and yes, citrus.

I really had to hold it back this past week regarding the DNC.

Poor Denver?! Tens of tousands of folks stayed at hotels, ate at restaurants, visited museums, and generally spent a bunch of money.
While some may not agree with them, I'm sure that there are many Rebublicans who would welcome them back again.

I went outside right after Obama's speech and looked to the West.
WOW! A strange glow was coming from Colorado.

It could have been cafe furniture burning in the streets of Denver,
but it wasn't.
It could have been Millets head blazing red from the crap he thought he had heard. It could have been.
What it was, was the healthy glow of optimism that we will soon be done with Bush and especially Cheney.

77,000 pinko commie bleeding heart liberals were cheering, hear them roar!!

Clinton was too devisive, and married to a philandering shithead.
Edwards was too pro-union, and a philandering shithead.
Romney was another big business corporate boob
Huckabee, I liked him. Just a little too far to the right.
McCain, for a Republican, is a good man, but not "far right wing". I like how he stood up against torture, and violating the geneva convention rules. (Bush has no use for rules, or the constitution for that matter!)
He has had some health issues with his four bouts with cancer. That makes the VP spot even more important
Palin seems to be the perfect outsider, but Alaska, with more reindeer than people, is not nearly as complicated as say Pennsylvania(Ridge).
I don't think that she can run this country. She has done a good job fighting corruption in government, and not afraid of standing up to the large corporations that have run Alaska for the last 30 years. I like the way she wears those glasses and has her hair pulled up. That sexy librarian look should get lots of voters. I will not be put under a spell.

We are going to elect Obama as our next president.

I'll send him a fruit basket.
Scott

This is the "Off topic" area so I have no problem with people discussing politics. In my opinion all politicians are corrupt. This country needs a complete overhaul which everyone knows will never happen...

Obama is an extremely inspiring orator, he has a charisma that is seldom seen these days. I find myself unable to change the channel when I see that he is speaking, or will be speaking shortly. I understand why the Democrats elected him. That being said, if you know how to balance a home budget, or a small business, as I do, you have to ask yourself how he plans on paying for even a quarter of what he proposes? Critics to this will say, just bring the troops home, that will pay for it. And it will, for a couple of years. But not forever. Look at social security. It may have been funded indefinately if we did not “borrow” (ie steal) from it almost from its inception to pay for our daily pig fix. National health care, for instance, will either be too costly or too restrictive; probably both. I am so glad that Senator Kennedy received his potentially life saving operation and treatment so shortly after his condition was diagnosed. Do you think this would have been possible on a national health care system had he not had personal wealth and public position? If he had to rely on solely a national health care system, I am afraid that he may have been diagnosed on the autopsy table, when treatment was no longer an option.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not enamored by McCain either. He would not have been my first choice of the field of Republicans that began the race. I have been a reluctant supporter, motivated by a feeling that he is the lessor of two evils. I must say that when I heard the announcement about Palin and had a chance to hear a little bit about her, I was excited. She seems like a refreshing mix of values and fortitude, and her career path appears to have been a direct result of those two things. I welcome the opportunity of learning more about her.

My children, who are half black like Obama, are caught up in the Obama thing. I am afraid that most of the black population are caught up in it too, just because of the color of his skin. I understand why; I get it. Maybe if this country would have been less color-blind earlier in our history, a more balanced black candidate would have made his way to the top sooner. We are a product of our values, our willingness to stand up for our values, and our personal growth, or lack thereof.

Don’t worry, Sylvain, I am sure California will go to Obama in November.

If America ever gets national health care, then the Canadians will have no where to go to receive good health care. - Millet

Thank you Scott, Thank you Barbara for that fresh air breeze of tempered words.
Scott, I liked very much what you said even if I didn't understand everything by lack of knowledge on American culture.
Barbara, your mail is very nice but I think you are wrong about national health care. No need to find the money because anyway you already pay your health care. Only the "travel" of the money will (would) change.
I think the most beautiful think that could happen to a country (to the people of that country) is free health care and free education.
Without that, for me a country is not a true democracy.
Sarkozy is trying to break both of them in France (and many other things) and for us French people, it is a very pain full subject.

"While I don't agree with some of the more conservative folks here on their politics, I like them.". Indeed I agree.

Feeling less lonesome.

The U.S. is ranked 39th in quality of care. We pay twice as much as any other nation.

Scott, where do you come up with such a figure, I find it really hard to believe. I don't know about your care, but my health care is wonderful, excellent. Sylvain, nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, ZERO. NADA in this world is free, including health care and education. - Millet

This came from the World Health Organization ( I know, a U.N. liberal think tank). The overall rating is actually 37th not 39th. We pay not quite twice as much as Switzerland, which ranked 20th. France had the best rated health care system in the world, and pays less than half of what we do.

I'm not the most computer savvy cat in the world, but see if this works:

http://dll.umaine.edu/ble/U.S.%20HCweb.pdf

I'm sure that the Canadians wait until they get home to fill their prescriptions.

Scott

This is an English language problem. "Free" means "gratuit" or "libre". We have the same issue with "free software". Indeed health care and education cost money (much money). What free health care and free education means here is everybody rich and poors, old and young, workers, invalids... can be cured or educated from the children school to university without any segregation (money or anything else). It must include teeth care and glasses ("spectacles" I don't remember wich one is English and which is American

In this world there needs to be places to go an escape the bickering about politics, religion, racial animosity, and other differences that divide us. Here our common interest in citrus, and other plants, should draw us together and, like a garden, be a refuge from such controversy. I suggest that, on this forum, we avoid subjects that divide us and engender hard feelings. There are plenty of other places on the WWW to express yourselves on these issues.
