Hey everyone, today i bought two nice plants. A calamondin and a kumquat with a lot of kumquats on it.

I was wondering what to do with the kumquats, they're already ripe so i'll have to use them for something. What do you think is the best recipe for kumquats??

What type kumquat? I have a meiwa and we eat all of ours straight from the tree. They make great marmalade, but ours never last that long.

Here is a link to Florida kumquat growers page with some recipies--

I only know that Meiwa is round & Nagami is more oval & not as sweet as Meiwa. I have Meiwa & eat them whole, & they make good marmalade.

HI Skeet and Patty! Thanx for the link, the ice cream really sounds great!! Laughing I don't really know if it's a nagami or a meiwa. I have eaten some fruits and they weren't sour. Not completely sweet, but with a sour after-taste:)
According to the shape of the kumquats, i guess it's a nagami.

Btw, calamondin is self-pollinating, isn't it?

Looking at the shape of your kumquats, the tree is a Nagami Kumquat. Nagami Kumquats are eaten whole (pulp and skin). The pulp is tart, but the rind is quite sweet tasting.

Thanx Kelli Smile What do you mean with "ive got new-tree envy?"
I was also suprised that the plants were that bushy, but it's quite nice:) Does anyone has an idea how long the kumquats can rest on the tree when they're already ripe? (To me they seem to be ripe, they're deep orange and no longer really hard).
