I adopted four citrus when I moved into my new hose in Carmel Valley, CA. They were all but dead, but after moving them to the north side of the property and nursing them back to "first-stage" health, I am now trying to figure out what species they are.

From the high strokes, they appear to be two lime and two kumquats. Near as I can tell one is a Bears Lime (Lime 1) from the looks of the sole fruit and purple flowers. But the other is unknown. The two Kumquats are in the same boat. So I thought I would just throw all four citrus in question out and see if anybody could lend me a helping hand on identyfying them.

Thanks in advance!

Photos 1 & 2 are lemons 3 & 4 may be mandarins from the looks of the leaves.

Red / purple new growth & flower buds are lemons or citrons. More than likely they are meyer lemons especially photo 2.

I agree with Lazz on #1 with the bronze leaves, but I see a new flush on #2 and it is not bronze, also see a flower and it is not purple--it may be mandarin.

Just a guess, but #3 is probably not kumquat, flowers look too big as well as leaves--seems to be blooming a little early for kumquat as well.

#4 could be kumquat, but the fruit will tell. If it is Nagami, fruit will be oblong, if miewa, the fruit will be round.

Thanks for the responses... a few comments...

The flowers in the second "Lime" photo are in fact all white and don't have red new growth. Still I don't really have an definitive answer...

I suspected that number 3 is a mandarin given the long narrow leaves and flush of flowers as you suggest. That makes sense.

Number 4 is most likely a nagami Kumquat as the leaf shape is near-idenitical to another Nagami I have.

You may be right about #1 being a varierty of lemon, but its not a Meyers (I have three). The fruits are round; smaller than a golf ball and are flushed yellow-green. If they turn all yellow I will let you guys know, but I suspect until I slice it open it may be hard to ID. (The leaf shape also smacks of a lemon variety.

Again thanks for your insights!

#2 serrated leaves look to be lemon. Could be wrong, but I think that it is a lemon.
