Checking in with Millet and hoping all is Ok in your area, just reading USA online said lots of folks still without power(The storm that included two weak tornadoes and a possible microburst tore through the southern and western Denver suburbs), isn't this weather activity unusual? _________________

The damage sustained in the west sections of Denver, I'm sure will be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. I'm 30 miles east of Denver, all we got was rain. - Millet (1,275-)

Joan, we have been receiving storm after storm all summer long. The storm before last we got hail and lost about 20 percent of our wheat crop. However, I feel fortunate, as some of my neighbors lost their entire crop. In life no matter how bad it seems, there is always someone worse off. If you ever get to Colorado your always welcome to stop by. Take care. - Millet (1,274-) |

Millet I am planning on moving to the Denver area this time next year for grad school at the University of Denver. I plan to get my masters in library science (specialization in law/politics) but would really like to do something (well anything really) in the greenhouse/horticulture industry. Is the greenhouse industry pretty lively in the Denver area? I know you have a greenhouse and Colorado is know to have a good amount of sun. Just kind of curious.

Colorado gets about 330 days of sun a year. The greenhouse business is very big, and covers a 50 mile radius around metro Denver. For 14 years I worked for Van Waters & Rogers (Now Univar) in agricultural sales, and the greenhouse industry was my area of sales. The Denver area has many millions of square feet under glass. The University of Denver is an excellent school, and a very expensive school to attend. The past United States Secretary of State, Condoleza Rice, is one of the many famous graduates from the University of Denver. - Millet (1.261-) |

Thanks Millet, I hear it is a great school. I believe that I was told recently that it was founded by the same folks that founded a pretty prestigous school here in Chicago, Northwestern. It also is unbelievably expensive and I am hoping for tons of financial aid... I am glad to hear all of the good things about Colorado! I am so excited about the idea of moving there! |

Millet- Do you remember the very short lived advertisement by Volkswagen that had a picture of a Volkswagen bug floating in water and the caption said something like " if Mary Jo had been in a Volkswagen she would still be alive because our cars float" ? The ad didn't last long but I think it was a full page in Life magazine....What a world we live in....Now Obama is saying how much Ted was admired by both sides of the isle... _________________ Tom in central Alabama |

How different would the world be today if Mary Jo had gotten out of the car , swam safely away and then called the police the next morning ,after talking by phone to her lawyer, and they had pulled out Ted's car the next morning with him dead inside? You have to just wonder..... _________________ Tom in central Alabama |

Tom, things did not have to turn out the way that they did. Mary Jo did not actually die from drowning. The back of the car was partially sticking up above the water's surface, and there was an air pocked in the rear of the auto. She breathed the air from the pocket, until there was no more oxygen. Mary Jo's autopsy found no water in her lungs, she died from suffocation. Had kennedy not quickly fled from the scene, because he was a married man with another women in his car, abandoning the 28 year old Ms. Kopeckne, and leaving her trapped in the car, and had he not waited to report the incident until the next day, after talking to a family lawyer, Mary Jo would still be alive. Mr. & Mrs. Kopeckne, as it eventually turned out, never stood a chance legally, against the powerful kennedy family. The Volkswagen add you talk about, was not a Volkswagen advertisement, and was pulled when Volkswagen complained and threatened to sue. May God bless the Kopeckne family. - Millet (1,237-) |
