Quote from weather.com "THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR THE VERDIGRIS RIVER AT INDEPENDENCE. * FROM LATE TONIGHT TO LATE SATURDAY NIGHT ...OR UNTIL THE WARNING IS CANCELLED. * AT 8:00 PM THURSDAY THE STAGE WAS 20.5 FEET. * MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST. * FLOOD STAGE IS 30.0 FEET. * FORECAST...FLOOD STAGE WILL BE REACHED BY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. THE RIVER WILL CREST NEAR 39.7 FEET BY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THE RIVER WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE BY SATURDAY EVENING. * IMPACT...AT 36.0 FEET...SOME FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS AND BOTTOM LAND CAN BE EXPECTED."

I can see the Verdigris from my front porch.. It has never reached my house as I live on a bit of a hill.. so I am not worried.. but some of my neighbors are not so lucky..
I spent some time this evening trying to clear debris from drains. My side yard and back yard had about an inch of water.. I didn't measure.. but it went over my now pruned feet.. I am glad I went out because all of my trees were standing in about two inches of water.. where all of the water was draining to on the patio by the garage.. I moved all of my plants up against the garage out of the standing water.. Tomorrow I will have my daughter help me load them in the wagon and cart them to the front porch were they can dry out a bit... I was wanting to wait to put them back on the porch till I got the porch floor painted.. but this will have to wait for another time.. The rain had been a very light rain until today.. it poured buckets.. I'll be selling buckets of water to those in drought areas for very cheap rate.. Wink ..
Just wanted to let any one seeing SE KS being flooded to know I'm ok.. and will be.. just might have borrow a canoe to get around my side yard and out to my van.. lol

Hope all is well with every one.. and good luck to the rest in flood areas!!
I will probably get some picture after it stops raining....... IF it stops long enough during the day..

i actually had a moro blood orange tree that survived sitting in murky lake water for a little over two weeks after hurrican katrina!!!
but we had to get rid of it because the water it was ssitting in was highly toxic :/

remeber the tree across the street???
Here it is now.....

My neighbor told me they had been warned that flood gates north of us will be opened at 10pm tonight.. and it is starting to rain again..
that is the river in their back yard..
I told them if it starts getting bad over there to come over..
highway 400 between Fredonia and Neodesha is closed.. Neodesha is located between Verdigris and Fall river.. both are well above flood stage.
I did not take the camera when we "went to town" but there is lots of flooded areas around town.. the street I live on will be closed about 1 1/2 blocks south of my house tonight..
I'm still not worried for myself.. I got my trees up on the porch now.. and I feel like one big Mosquito bite.. they are SUPER BAD!!! swarms of them waiting for fresh meat!!!
Well.. I'm going to hop off here comes the lightning..
I'll let you all know how tonight goes...

Baby Blue had to leave her house, as the flood waters finally reached her residence. In an E-mail she has asked me to post this message. - Millet

..........."I am flooded out.. I called your cell phone and left a message. I am at a
friends for a few to e-mail.. I am staying with another friend. No water
in town and electricity is spotty. The flood got up to the floor boards in
my house. I can not go back yet and have no idea when power water etc will
be restored. Would you pass the word on that I cannot get on my other
e-mail account.
Family is safe and sound....will contact you all as soon as I can.. If you
could pass the word to Millet (Bob) so he can pass it on in the other
forum..
Thanks!!!

It sounds like things are pretty bad there-- hopefully the rain will stop and the waters will recede before it kills the tress that Gina has worked on so hard with her grafting.

Hey Gina, my prayers are with you. I have been working out of town last few days & didn't catch the news ... just saw this post.
Wish you could send some of that rain this way - we are in sort of a drought up here.
Hope your house, family & all belongings will be OK.

I am back home.. power was restored late yesterday and we just got back water a couple hrs ago..
have been working to clean up.. shower after 5 days of (*#@$& was great.. still have to boil water for drinking etc.. but I'm starting to feel human again..
we have to have our house inspected for damage.. could be damage to joists and floor boards but thank God it didn't get IN the house so all in the house is OK... stinky but ok.... the garage is another story.. almost total loss there. but I made out better than some neighbors.. so I can not complain..
I'm whooped so I will post these pics and head off to bed..
I look forward to after the clean up and getting back to normal life..
Thanks for all the well wishes!!

I can thank my best friend here local for my van not being parked in the drive.. she begged me to come play dice with her late Friday night.. and that was the only reason I moved my van.. honestly I was a bit put out that she wanted me to get out in the nasty rain to come over.. but am thankful for that "in convince" now..
8:30 am and I still did not think it would get up to the house... but at this point glad my van is not parked in the drive..

10:50 am.. it can't get any higher than this.....

well known view at 11 am...

12:30 just before we left.. was packing and putting stuff as high as we could between 11 and 12...

my pond.. still has fish in it.. haven't done a nose count yet though.. the water did get up higher than this...

my street....

here are my ring neck deer.. if you look at the picture earlier you can see where the water is on the deer and see how far the water got up to..

I will get back to regular posting soon..
hope all is well with every one!!!
wish I could have sent all of this rain to those who desperately need it..

Well, Gina, this is my first communication directed to you personally and it's unfortunate that it's under such circumstances. It sounds like God was watching over you as you avoided more serious damages in a couple of ways. My own house that my wife and I purchased 13 years ago was flooded in 1972 and had 3-4 feet of water in it for several months (matters are a bit worse when you start out living below sea level!). The house I lived in with my parents at the time was lost (friends told us they saw it floating away). Dad lost all of his crops and we lost many of our possessions. I remember, even as a young teenager, later thinking about how our family came together and we were stronger. I hope you recover as our family did and are a stronger person after going through these past scary days.

You'll be in my prayers,

i am very thankful that things were not worse for my family!!! and yes God was watching out for us..
it is hard to see neighbors that lost so much..
we have been working hard to get yard and garage back to "normal"...
I broke my right hand today removing tree limb so i won't be back to typing long replies any time soon..
I am reduced to couch/ porch oniment today... guess i was more needed as moral support for neighbors needing a break came over to chat on the porch...

thanks for all the well wishes and prayers!!
