Ok, Here is a good mystery case for you all.
My Key Lime seems to be able to attract Invincible Mealies. I honestly tried to give Mother Nature a chance to fix it herself. I figure with the Mosquito Abatement Program here in Charleston, the Ladybugs just don't have a chance. I see one and I get excited, but they just don't seem to be able to multiply.
I took things into my own hands. I pulled out my trusty Malathion. Blasted the tree on every square inch. Under leaves, around fruit, crevices...you name a place I blasted it with Malathion. TWO DAYS LATER! They were back in HUGE MASSES, all over the poor thing. I mean HUGE! There was one decent sized fruit that was almost completely covered. I thought maybe my Malathion was bad. I went to the store and got some liquid Sevin. Again, Blasted every nook and cranny. They were back, not quite as bad, but pretty heavy. I thought, well...MAYBE, I missed some bugs and/or eggs. Did it again. You guessed it, no impact. I pulled out the BIG GUNS! It is approved for Apples, but does not mention Citrus, but I tried it anyway. CYGON! I blasted that tree until it was just dripping with spray. Dropping it in a pool, it would have been dryer. I am NOT kidding, so help me!! TWO HOURS, YES, I SWEAR...TWO FREEKIN HOURS LATER....there was 6 mealies crawling up the trunk and a mass of them right in the main crevice. I went and got my Malathion Dust and covered the topsoil and whatever would stick to the trunk. I still saw a few walking around up on some of the exterior branches.
I think I heard them laughing at me!
Anyway, anybody got a Mealie Bug Bazooka?! Or at least an idea?
Thanks!
Darren

Thanks Millet,
Yea, I know....but from what a pesticide guy told me..It breaks down quickly, that is why it can be used on Apples and other fruit. The Key limes won't be ready for another month or more anyway.
After the Malathion dusting...I found and squished three mealies today taking a stroll up the trunk....it's times like this I want to give up on Citrus. It won't happen, but I get really frustrated.
Darren
