I was at a garden shop today an saw a tree tagged from Thompson's Nursery it was an Iranian Lemon . I asked the people there about it and even called the nursery it came from and can find no information about the tree or the fruit I googled it also. Anyone out there know where I might find info on the tree and fruit.
Thanks Bob

Well, you have the honor to first describe it to the world since you've got and no info is available. Perhaps email Thompson's nursery. You can report on how it compares to Eureka, Lisbon and Meyer.

Iranian Lemon is just another name for Persian Lemon. From Old French limon "citrus fruit,", from Arabic laimun or Persian limu(n) - Millet

Millet, I've looked up history of Iran's citrus industry. And I found no reference to specific lemons. But it is important to note that before 1967 or before citrus planting materials were imported, Iran's tropical climes have a lot of native lemons along their coastal areas and Iranians used to propagate them by seeds only. It could be the Persian lime or something else sold by Thompson nursery, perhaps from a nucellar seedling that originated in Iran from their indigenous species. For sure, clarification from Thompson's nursery is needed.

The Iranian Lemon (also called the Persian Lemon) is a large sized lemon, looks simular to the Ponderosa Lemon. If you type "Iranian Lemon" into your search engine you will see various information such as recipes and such for the Iranian Lemon. The Iranian lemon is one the lemon trees in the University of California Variety Holdings. You can find it listed under listing #3162. - Millet

Thanks for the description of being similar to Ponderosa Lemon. The Persian Lemon or Iranian Lemon while in the UCR citrus collection, I haven't seen it listed to the public as a source of Citrus Foundation Block propagating material. It is not in the latest official listing for 2006.

Even reputable nurseries, are sometimes not careful in the labeling of their products, and was hoping that they have indigenous lemons from Iran.

I have both the Ponderosa and Persian Lime. My first guess would be a Ponderosa, but I will try to remember to look at them both tomorrow to try to get a better feel what it might be.

The Ponderosa Lemon is a hybrid cross between a lemon & citron. This plant & fruit are very similar in appearance.

Lazz, I do not believe the Iranian Lemon is the same as a Ponderosa, nor is it the same as the Persian Lime. I believe it is its own variety, as UCR list Iranian Lemon as a seperate variety from both the Ponderosa or the lime. -Millet
