I tasted my first Ponkan from my tree this year and compared it to the Kimbrough Satsuma from my Lemon tree and an Owari Satsuma on trifoliate rootstock. The Ponkan was excellent and certainly the best of the 3--distinct flavor and nice sweetness. There was not much difference in the Owari and the Kimbrough, but I would give a slight edge to the Owari. Both are sweet and juicy, but the Owari has a little more flavor. Niether the Owari or the Kimbrough is a tender as the Ponkan, the segments are definitely a little tougher in the satsumas.
