I have a lot of ants crawling up my citrus fruit cocktail tree. My trees have a lot of flowers so that's where they appear to be going. Do the ants have any beneficial effects? Are they somehow helping to pollinate the flowers?

I know ants bring aphids. I used to have aphids on my lettuce and squash that are nearby but I controlled them with soapy water. As far as I know there are no aphids on my citrus tree.

Should I employ preventative measure to keep the ants off of my tree or would it be OK to leave them alone?

Ants will farm scale insects on citrus trees. They should be kept off.
