It was quite unexpectedly for me. Two Taichang Lemon seedlings which grew out in april 2010 broke out into blossom:

They grew in a big box with other seedlings of Hardy citrus plants (Changsha, citrus Taiwanica, Kimbrough Satsuma, Sudachi). Their growth was good, but not better then others. In winter they were in a room without heating and almost without light, the temperature was from 0C to plus 10C. Since 20th of March they have been standing on the south balcony of the second floor, they easily endured slight frosts to minus 2C. I did not give offshoots to grow to form a trunk. All plants were growing only upwards.
I think that it is not only because of conditions of growing and wintering but also manifestation of early appearance of fruit of Taichang Lemon in general, because other seedlings do not blossom.

It happens quite often for young seedlings to flower once on terminal bud. But than you should wait for years before regular flowering.

I am not waiting for blossoming the more for fruiting until it has crown - trunk and main branches. But I would like to discuss early appearance of fruit of Taichang Lemon. And also question for respected Stan McKenzie: how exactly did Taichang Lemon endure December frosts?

The taichang lemon that I have planted here on my farm took the winter really well. We had the coldest December on record since records have been kept. Our overwinter low was 13 F with night after night of temperatures in the 20's. I am pleased to say that the taichang lived through all the cold weather with no protection.. No wraps, no water barrells.. NOTHING! and it is alive and healthy. There was some die back of the last growt spurt that came on in the fall of 2010 but that is to be expected.. So, it appears taichang is going to be a really good addition to the cold hardy citrus collection!

I have sent seeds to the Ukraine & other eastern European places clearly labeled as seeds on the customs tag & never had a problem.

Ukraine is very famous for its extremely fertile so called "black earth" soil.
