A citrus grower in the South Australian Riverland is trying his luck with a new crop.

David Arnold, a grower at Waikerie in SA, said tough times for citrus had prompted him to plant feijoa trees.

He has several hundred and has produced his first small crop.

Mr Arnold said he took the plunge when he found the climate should suit the often-tropical feijoa and that Australia currently imports feijoas.
