Is this environmental conditions? This Poncirus seedling was late to come up, started off looking albino, then starting greening at the base while the growing tip turned purple. It was a bit colder when it came up then when the rest of the seedlings emerged before it. Some others that look albino have since come up as well so I'm curious if they will do the same. I'll grow this on, but I suspect it will green up and the purple color will be hidden under the green...not sure though...first time growing up 100s of P.t. seedlings. |

Many times albino plants will produce purple flushes. Cross your finger & hope it goes variegated. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Interesting picture. I have planted many, many citrus seeds over the years, and have never had a seedling germinate where the seed rose above the soil line and remained attached to the plant. - Millet |

You caught me Bob , the seeds were germinated in a common pot and I picked them out to individual pots. This one got replanted not quite so deeply because it was albino at the top, but I could see some green lower down and thought it might help keep it alive longer if a bit more of that green zone was above the soil line. The cotyledons seem to be green as well, but I didn't want to risk pulling off that seed coat as it's pretty dry and tightly on. One of the other "albino tops" that I got has it's seed coat off and it has nice green cotyledons and a pure white shoot. |

Any updates on this seedling? Maybe it was just embarrassed or blushing while growing out of its seed?? |

It's still around and growing nicely. It ended up going fully green and I can only tell it apart from its peers because I have it separated. I'll keep an eye on it for the next few years, but I think it just had a weak start...slow to germinate and needed a bit of pampering to see it off....shy to leave its seedcoat, as you said.
G, what's really looking nice is that trifoliate Nuclem seedling...can't wait for you to see it. The leaf margins have nice seration. If it does well for you and the fruit is ok, maybe you can send me back a bud stick. |

Thanks for the update. I've caught up on a lot of things so now I have some time to follow up on posts that have slipped by me.
I'm also intrigued about the Nuclem x Trifoliate, SancitChang X Abers Willowleaf and all the other new hybrids that are popping up. Please keep us posted on their growth. |

G, here's a pic of that SanCitChang pollinated with Abers pollen. Pretty cool, huh? Looks like the willow leaf shape might be dominant. I'd love to see what happens when a trifoliate parent is crossed by Abers (or this little guy). I'm imagining dark glossy willow leafed trifoliates! Thank you again for that fruit.

And here's that little Nuclem trifoliate seedling that I'll be sending you. Cute little guy, isn't it!

Thanks for the pictures Greg. It's always exciting to see new hybrids and even more exciting to see what the fruit will be like. The SanCitChang X Aber's looks great and like you said a Aber's X Trifoliate would look pretty cool.
I like how the Nuclem X Trifoliate looks. The jagged edge of the leaf has a unique appearance. It reminds me slightly of my microcitrus inodora. I wonder if it will be totally trifoliate or if it will have mono or bifoliate leaves throughout? We'll have to keep an eye on this one and see if the taste of the fruit has been totally tainted with the trifoliate 'blood'. |
