I have rats and squirrels at our place. I used to be able to take care of the squirrels pretty easily with a resetting trap. I would come home to find a half dozen squirrels in it that ended up dying of lead poisoning. They stopped eating the bait though so I think they have taken a liking to my grapefruit instead. For my rat problem, lately nothing has worked. They trip the snap traps, my sticky rat traps disappear, and the poison doesn't seem to be working.

Sounds like you need some mongoose.

Mongoose will definitely exterminate rats, but afterwards you will have to find someone to exterminate mongoose.

There is bait, that does not kill but makes infertile like the anti-baby pill.

I think if you use that, the predators will do the rest ...

did you try black pepper? I heard it can chase away the rats.
