Must be rare --$25.00 for a 4 inch pot is too much for me. It looks absolutely beautiful though. Nice find Joe. _________________ Patty

If you want to compare prices elsewhere, this is the same as 'Dwarf Cavendish', or sometimes called "Very Dwarf Cavendish."
The term "Lady Finger" is an interesting one in bananas. In Florida, at least, the term means "the name to call any banana whose correct name is not known, and whose fruit weigh less than 15 pounds apiece." It is remarkable, the number of very different bananas that get called by the name. And I've always wondered why, since no banana I've ever seen resembles the finger of a lady! |

Malcolm, you saying that Musa Lady Finger is the same as Garnet's new Dwarf Cavendish??!!
I again just clicked on the link Joe posted & they are already OUT OF STOCK!
Geeze, I'm confused
I bought 2 ice cream bananas & 2 orange jessamine @$4.50 each & $5.95 shipping for all 4...$23.95 tot.
Was told the IC might get too big for my 13ft ceiling in my sunroom over winters. _________________ Patty

Patty,
I'm saying there is no such thing as "Lady finger" banana. But the picture in the Logee's catalogue is 'Dwarf Cavendish'.

The picture from Logees is light years different than the regular dwarf cavendish. I have several dwarf cavendish grown in pots and their sizes are overwhelming. I also have several strains of Lady Finger types of bananas, including the cold hardier version which is the Goldfinger.
The major difference between the Dwarf Cavendish and the Dwarf Lady finger is the height and fruit size. The individual Dwarf Cavendish fruit is about 75% the size of regular chiquita or dole bananas from the stores. The Dwarf lady finger fruit is about 25% the size of chiquita bananas. The height of Dwarf Cavendish is 5 ft at the trunk, and about 10-12 ft overall including the tip of the leaves and almost impossible to grow indoors for fruiting. The Dwarf Lady finger is about 6-7 ft overall and should fit well and should achieve fruiting height when grown indoors.
I will be evaluating the dwarf lady finger. Have already evaluated 80 banana cultivars so far and have retained only about 10 of them. |

I think most banana growers are skeptical of the name given by Logee. But whatever the proper species name of that thing, it is out of stock temporarily!
Naming of banana cultivars has always been problematic, messy and chaotic. And it will be for some time to come.
Whatever that variety is, I am dying to try one that can fulfill the original claims of that dreaded super dwarf cavendish. A truly fruiting edible bananas in pots. And this seem to fit the bill, no matter what the true name of that plant is. |

A most unusual banana, ‘1000 Fingers’ is a beautiful solid green plant that grows 8 to 10 feet tall and produces sweet 1 ½” tiny bananas too numerous to count. This is a unique and unusual variety with a stem of fruit can be as long a 8 feet. The fruit are seedless and sweet with a pleasant flavor.

Thousand fingers and Monkey Fingers are amazingly cold hardy too, at least in our zone. Their p-stem don't die during the winter so they can have chances at fruiting. |

I manily stick with Chiquita, because they are VERYeasy to fruit and they only grow to about 8-10 feet high, plus they give a nice size banana. I do have several Dwarf Cavendish in containers, I use them mainly for decoration purposes, the fruit is to small to mess with. In a warm greenhouse culture, over the years I have found that the Chiquitas blooms some where arount the 18th leaf + or -. - Millet |

Millet send me some pups !!! Patty wanted some of my ice crean, but they are now over the top of my two story house & have still not bloomed. Maybe this is what Patty needs as well. I was going to send her a pup, but the pups grow so fast it is difficult to get one that is shorter than I am. |

YEAH!, that does sound good to me. Something that would fit in room w/ 13 ft. ceiling for winter!
Hi Laaz, I have to confess that just a day or 2 before you posted that you were doubtful of sending me the IC, I ordered 2 small ones off EBay for $4.50 each. I thought you forgot about me They were 3-4 inches high & are now over a ft. Was thinking I could keep the height down by growing in a pot. The 1000 fingers I wouldn't want (too little to mess with - like Millet said). That dwarf Lady finger sure sounded good but too expensive. I'll send one of my I.C. for one of Millet's pups
Millet, is that the chiquitas in your avatar pic? Maybe we could do a trade? You have a much higher ceiling in your GH...or would Laaz want it?
Yes, I'd love one of Millet's pups. _________________ Patty

I have 3-5 pubs coming up, I'll send some to both of you. They come up all the time and I usually just chop them out. Patti, yes my avatar is a chiquita banana. That one fruited as you see, and then of course died, and the pup that I saved and let grow is now about 8 feet tall. I got about 95 bananas off the mother. I'll send them in a day or two. - Millet |
