Hi all. Between the above, what do you think would grow best for a Canadian grower(Orlando Tangelo or Hamlin Orange)? Ie. out spring, summer, bit of fall... in winter? I've chosen them for their cold hardiness. I know I'm missing the big one satsuma, for cold hardy but I don't have a source for those yet.

What would your preference be?

I'll add Blood Orange to that list.
So;
a. Orlando Tangelo
b. Blood Orange
c. Hamlin Orange

How much heat do you get? Do you get frost/freeze in the spring or fall? More details needed.

Chris, where I live our last day of frost(to be safe) is typically May 29. temperature highs are around 68 - 86 for around 4 months. Frosts would likely start to come around October. It would be a pot plant that I can bring indoors and outdoors as I please

that's a short season. I would recommend getting a satsuma or some budwood and grafting your own. Or get an acid citrus like lemon or lime.

Hey Sparkes!

To tell you the truth I would choose whatever citrus you would like the most. Obviously you'll be growing them in a container so I wouldn't worry about the zones unless you plan to keep them out all year long. Keep them out in the summer on the deck or in the backyard bring them in winter make sure everything is right for them in winter and you should have no problem!(worst case like mine is to have a spider mite war that never ENDS!!!) Again I'm in zone 3 and I have Eureka lemon, Meyer lemon, clementine mandarin, calamondin, and a type of Naval Orange. I had one naval orange fruit, and two meyer lemons and they were good!! The rest are either flowering or just finished flowering. Again make sure the plants get whatever they need(fertilizer, water when needed, pest control) and they'll be happy and so will you Wink

links citrus source online(ordered other things but never ordered citrus from them. Only have lime and lemons anyway)

Flora Exotica is another good tropical fruit grower in case you are interested. I have purchased a guava and 'meyer' lemon plant..which..turned out to be a lime ahahah

I was thinking of ordering from them until I found two local sources who always order bulk orders of citrus plants from monrovia. So I always get what I need Wink
