Spanish citrus growers in the region of Valencia, Spain have dumped over 120 tonnes of fruit outside the offices of German discounters Aldi and Lidl in protest over a “crisis” in prices that they claim is forcing many producers out of business. Around 300 producers took part in the protest on 13 January in the municipality of Alfafar, which is close to the city of Valencia, Spain where clementines and oranges were being dumped to highlight what they claimed was the retailers’ “totalitarian attitude”. Union officials warn that if the situation does not soon improve, they will take more forceful measures.- Millet (369 ABO-)
