I bought $55 of bug juice for tree paint jobs this year. The main purpose is to thwart off ants that usually care for and spread scales and aphids on my fruit trees.
I have postponed mixing and using it, but water jet sprayed the aphids off my plants until I had time to mix the bug juice and use them.
Now after the parade of aphids, I have many tiny alligators that are actually lady bug nymphs that had been feasting on the aphids and scales on my citruses. The resident population of lady bugs and their larvae are helping ward off the build-up of aphid and scale populations.
I am now at a dilemma if I should apply bug juice. The side effect would be wiping out the natural population of my predatory insect helpers which could mean that I would be addicted to insect chemicals the rest of the years to come. One nice thing about natural predator prey is that you won't need any insect chemicals the rest of the season once they've caught up with the pests. They just needed some assistance, and that can be done with water jet sprays earlier in the season.
Has anyone used the bug juice and have seen any detrimental effects to the prey population?
Here's the good story about bug juice:
