I have a 1 yr old Cutie hybrid that I've grown from seed. It is very healthy except for one leaf at the very top that for some reason is curled.

I recently increased my watering because of our dry AZ heat and the fact that my 1 yr old Mexican Lime had been sun and wind burned. I've kept my medium moist, rather than dry, since the roots have plenty of oxygen.... BUT, something is growing on the CHCs!! I took a picture of one husk.

So is this mold or some type of insect eggs??

That is more or less a common, but harmless mold. It can appear on various woody type materials. A year or two ago, a Florida member of this forum, a professor at the University of Florida at Gainesville, Fl. took a sample of it from one of his containers to the University to find out what it was. I have long ago forgot the name, it was in Latin, but it is totally harmless and soon goes away. Four or five years ago I also seen it on the medium of a couple of my containers. It caused no harm in the least.

Great!! Don't really need the mold's name as long as it's not bad for the tree..

I just transplanted the tree into a 3 gln ARPC - prob could/should have waited until next spring - but I was surprised at the medium. There was no compaction whatsoever, but over a year, the medium went from 3:1 chc/coco peat to 1:3! I sprinkle some earthworm castings on top every now and then, but the medium looked like potting soil with a few husks mixed in.. Also, some of the roots stuck to the walls of my square 1 gln ARPC..

All-in-all, I didn't harm the roots and the tree should be okay. I wonder if it's done growing for a while?

Thanks for easing my mind on the mold!! Really appreciate it!!
