Does any one know if the Down To Earth coconut chips are pre treated? The website doesn't say.

Thanks

Being an organic type company, I seriously doubt that their CHC's have been properly processed. As far as I know, no supplier any where in the United States, or the world for that matter, process CHC. Crystal Company of Saint Louis, MO. now washes/soaks their chips twice, and then put them through a compression press after each soaking and finally dries and packages their coconut chips in 2 cu.ft. bales. Therefore, now all a grower has to do with Crystal's chips is give them an over night soaking in calcium nitrate and magnesium to accomplish the final cation exchange.

Millet, how much expansion can be expected from a 2 cubic foot bale of CHC, I keep wanting to call Crystal Co. to place an order but keep wondering about how much I may need, is it also a good medium for Cordyline's or Bananas? Thanks

I don't know the expansion for sure, but it is approximately twice (4 cu. ft.) I have never grown bananas in CHC, as all of my bananas are planted directly in the ground, but I would think it would be a good growth medium.
