As some of you will know, I enjoy growing the Australian citrus varieties even though they're not very eatable. I've plants bought as the hybrids Faustrime and Faustrimedin, though I can't tell the difference, and have quite a few seedlings grown from them. This year one of the seedlings produced the biggest finger-shaped fruit I've yet seen.

It measures 10.5cms x 3.0cms, about 4" long and over 1" diameter.
Weight 50gms or 2oz.

Citrange thanks for posting it. That's a big fruit. Was it ripe and did you taste it?
I've read on one Aussie site that Microcitrus is best tasting when it ripens on the tree till it's ready to drop in your hand when you touch it.
Have you found this to be true?

I think it was was almost ripe. They do sometimes turn a bit more yellow, but this one dropped off by itself.
I've not yet tasted a Fingerlime, or hybrid of them, that was anywhere near sweet. In fact, they've all been extremely sour. Perhaps in a warmer, sunnier climate this might reduce. They can be used in the same way you would use a lemon, but to be honest I don't find they have such a distinct flavour. Curiousity value is very high, but usefulness is limited!

Some uses for fingerlime other than ingesting:
Squeeze juice on hands that smell of garlic or onion.
Freshen garbage disposal.
Cut some up in bucket of hot water, Tide soap, & some bleach & soak kitchen cloths & towels...helps remove stains (but now oxyclean does that too) & makes them smell nice.
Stick a bunch of cloves in one & let it hang till over ripe, & it's a air freshener (esp Christmas time).
Idea Add to oranges to make marmalade Question
