TRI,

it might be Changsha... or something else. The owner calls it "satsuma". Smile

Hi GT, I remember you said ages ago this unknown mandarin tastes sour and not very good, is that right? Maybe it's not Changsha because Changsha is supposed to be sweet and taste good?

Congratulations on your grafting success and thanks for the update. I will attempt grafting early next year Smile

Changsha is exceedingly seedy like a mouth full of seeds in every bite. And the fruit I tasted was very bland.

TRI,

the neighbor's tree is quite tall but spreading too. Also, we do not know what rootstock was used there...

Lemandarangequatelo,

thank you! I'm sure you will be very successful with your grafts. The funny thing is that when we tasted the fruits for the first time about 3 years ago, they were more or less bland, as MrTexas mentioned, and on a sour side. Also, very seedy... couple of seeds per segment. We definitely were not impressed. However, the last year, fruits were still seedy but the taste was very good all of a sudden! I'm sort of waiting for this year crop. Very Happy

MrTexas,

I think the tree is about 10 years old. The guy is not a gardener and, most likely, got it from Lowes or something. He calls it 'satsuma' and does not collect fruits. Very Happy Guess, it is whatever was widely available here about 10 years ago...
