Has anyone on Citrus Growers made their own Fabric Pots-air pruning? Why not use some garden fabric or i'm going to expermint with some fine mesh screen and garden fabric. Cut the size you want, use fishing line to sew the bottom and sides with a craft needle and presto! Not only you saved a ton of money you have a fabric air pruning container! Just don't know if there is any harmful chemicals in garden fabric or fine mesh screen? I'll be interesting how this test works out with the growing season approaching. Smile

I don't know the similarities and differences between the different fabrics. I wonder if you could line a 1/2 whiskey barrel ( or any size pot really ) and make it into a pot in a pot for ease of transplanting later. Tom

Tom, i just saw on youtube where you take your container drill 1 or 2 inch holes all over the container and line container with fabric, i would think the air pruning would be the same. As for cost on making your own you can get fabric cheep at garden centers plus if you make your own, you don't have the outrageous shipping costs. One wesite the cost of shipping was more than the total items purchaced.

Quite a while back I attempted to make an air root pruning container by drilling many holes in a large plastic tub. It did not work. All the roots that missed the holes hit the side of the tub and began circling around and around the inside of the container wall. Not only did it not work it became a miserable failure. RootMaker containers have inside ridges that guides all roots to the pruning holes where they become air root pruned. With the cost of a few containers plus some UPS freight we really can't be talking about much money. - Millet

Th root makers are nice but I like the super roots air pots better, only downside is you can only buy the sizes they have, they dont sell the roll so you can make really large containers.
