Hello together!
Does anybody know how to get the Sanford and Phelps citrange in Europe? I mean not Sanford F2 but its mother, the F1 cross. I am interested in Sanford and Phelps because of their very high percentage of zygotic seedlings. For the same reason, I am searching for the Saccaton citromelo. Those plants seem to be very rare probably because their fruits taste horrible and because they cannot serve as a standard rootstock due to the high amount of zygotic seeds. But that's why I would like to use them in crossing experiments. I know that INRA Corse has them but they did not answer me.
Finally, I am looking for the Juanita tangerine. Does anyone know where to get it in Europe?
A good day to you all!
Greetings,
Till |

Thank you for the tipp. I have already asked him though. I got no clear answer but I guess he does not have them because they are not on his homepage. As an enthusiast in breeding new varieties he would certainly offer them if he had them. |

Hi Till, I have Juanita, but I've already harvested the fruit this year...no seeds left....just seedlings. The Sanford and Saccaton I am planning to get this year...probably as scions. If you end up wanting seeds maybe I can get you some Juanita seeds next year. The Sanford and Saccaton would take several more years from me. Send me a note in about 11 months if interested in Juanita. Maybe some other members here in the US have seeds right now? |

In the thread under this one, "various seed packs", Laaz is selling a pack of Juanita seeds right now! |

Thank you for the tipp and your offer, Greg!
I'll contact Laaz for Juanita. And what concerns Saccaton and Sanford, let's stay in contact. I hope though that somebody in Europe can offer me scions of both. I am so impatient to see my own flowers of these plants. |

One thing regarding Sacaton...it's supposed to be nearly completely nucellar. But in testing from the UCR collection it showed up as having a high percentage of zygotic seedlings. UCR has 3 accessions labeled Sacaton. I will try my best to find out the % zygotic of each and try to get the one(s) with decent zygotic percentage. I only mention it because the real Sacaton may not be what you're looking for, so test if possible. |

Oh, that is indeed an important point. I read in a book from Bernhard Voss that Sacaton has an high percentage of zygotic seedlings. The formulation, however, was not so definitive for he only wrote that some tests have observed a high percentage of zygotic seedlings. And then I read the opposite in the internet. But now you have solved the riddle for me. Difficult if you cannot trust the official names of cultivars! |
