Great pics Joe! It was good to see you. Sorry you couldn't make it Darren. I was hoping you were gonna pull a last minute appearance. Thanks to all those who were able to come. It was great to be able to host the event this year in Virginia! Hope you enjoyed your visit. The Southeastern Citrus Expo 2006 details & Contest report will be posted soon.

Here are a few pictures that I took in Mr. Motyca's yard.
I enjoyed the entire trip, but Bob Motyca's yard was a sight to behold. Especially considering where it was! He has Thomasville, Citus tawanica, Changsha, Kumquats, and Orange, Keraji mandarin, ClemYuzu 3-3, and more, all planted out in his yard. Plus he has a large Mineola tangelo that is somewhat protected. The Keraji mandarin was a new taste experience for me. Sorta like a small satsuma with a lemony taste. Very good!

I somehow missed it, but my wife mentioned his Kiwi, which was also loaded with fruit.

Mr. Motyca was a generous and gracious host, and a master gardener in every sense of the word. He had left much of his fruit on the trees, until our visit. I believe I was told that this was so everyone could see what the trees looked like with fruit, and so that we could all have a sample.

Heavy rain before the expo left Ralph and Kathy Denton's place (Pungo Palm's)quite wet, so we had to be careful where we stepped, but we had an interesting visit there just the same. They are growing various palms and hardy citrus also.

Those of us who traveled on Stan's "Citrus Express" got bus ride down the beach, where they have over 20 blocks of Christmas lights on display.

We all had a great time. Unfortunately, Patty broke her arm on the trip down, but she seemed to be enjoying things when I spoke with her. I am sure she will tell us about the experience.

A BIG thanks to our hosts at VB!!

Ned

I too have some pics in camera but can't post till tomorrow night when I get home. We left VA Beach 7 this morn & I am in Sommerset Pa now & will drive to MKE tomorrow. Va Beach is a wonderful place..sorry for all who didn't make it.
In Atlantic City NJ thursday, everytime we opened a door at a casino or mall, the wind blew us in or out..it was very windy! Jokingly, I ran in a doorway like the wind blew me in, & when I tried to stop, 'Miss graceful' tripped on carpet & flew into stairs like superman. Had my arm strait out & it took the impact. Everyone around heard the crack! Spent 4 hours in E room Thursday night. I still managed to drive to Va Beach Fri. Doc said it was a good break as he didn't have to set it. (whew!!!) And NO, I didn't have any alcohol then... but had 2 martini's after! I s'pose if I was drunk, I wouldn't have got hurt LOL.
I will also post pics of Mr. Motyca's yard.

Keraji mandarin is a smaller than a satsuma and has a yellow peel with large seeds.

Yes, I spotted the fruit a couple of months ago on Dr. Motyca's Morton tree. He actually had about 2 or 3 of them like that. By the time everyone came around for the expo they had began to color but he had clipped them off and had them laying off the the side unnoticed.

I had all pics posted last night but 'puter shut dow before I could submit!
I took pics of Stan, Ned & Bob giving presentation & sorry that pics came out too dark. Here's a pic of one of 2 kiwi behind Dr Bob's house. Must've had 100's of fruits on---tempting to pick one

"Half in - half out" Mineola

That's Dr Bob in middle. The handsom little cowboy in orange vest is already a Mckenzie citruholic (Stan's grandson)

The bush on left is a Pineapple guava. Maybe the person getting ready to climb ladder can identify himself Very Happy . There was several guavas that fell on ground, so we were eating those. They were only about 2 inches long & tasted like strawberry/banana/pinapple kiwi!!! Ooooh, YUM

Eyeckr , Millet & 3 citruholics mesmerized by this tree full of fruit. Sorry, I forgot the name of citrus.

Same tree

Ned with one of at LEAST 2 awards

Another proud winner! (Sorry, you'll have to identify yourself - I forgot your name) Embarassed

I didn't want to post this - I look fat, even though I lost weight since last years', but here is 'gimpy' me & Garnetmoth ready to leave.

I entered myer lemon knowing I wouldn't win, but what a thrill to be able to enter! They were the first 3 that ripenend for me (I never tasted one), so after awards, me & Garnet ate the 2 halves that were cut & I took one home for my friends to taste.
I must say that it was hard finding where to go for fruit comp & presentations, so it was a lot of running that morning. Sorry I missed some of Bob's talk. Thanks to Eyeckr for escorting me to Dr Bob's house --- I had no map to get there. I never made it to Pungo Palms because I thought it was getting too late.
My 3 friends got to aqaurium after I did but couldn't find me, so paid full price to see aquarium but they loved it.
Va Beach is beautifull & the boardwalk light display was the best! Great view of it (& ocean) from the balcony too.

Patty, the pictured citrus tree that you posted and could not remember the name (the one with Eyeckr, the three citriholics and myself) I believe was a Thomsville Citrangequat. - Millet

Thanks for the posts. I was on call & could not attend so these photos are great !

Gaylord. A friend wanted me to post these photos. It seems this is a common trait for the Morton.
