I have just heard about this variety, and can't really find any information about it online anywhere. Can someone tell me more about this navel orange? Could it be a variegated sport of the Fukumoto navel (which, like Cara Cara, tends to sport variegated branches). I'd sure love to find a source for one. That, and a variegated mandarin. Thanks!

I have one. It rarely produces a navel. Leaves & fruit are variegated & it ripens around Christmas.

Hah, I knew if anyone had one, it would be you, Laaz. What a beautiful little tree. I'd grow it just for its ornamental beauty. I'm not sure I can get one - the vendor is outside Calif., so that would be an automatic no. I haven't seen them in California, nor does the CCPP list this as budwood (or even in the UCR Citrus Collection). I would love to get one, and any variegated mandarin variety, so if anyone knows of a source in California, I'd be so grateful. Boy, if I could get my own, I think I'd start propagating, just to sell to my CRFG buddies. I'd sell out anything I propagated. Razz

Byron from Logees sent me this tree years ago.

Yup, that's the source. Logee's. I know it's not a Cara Cara sport. Wonder if this was a variegated sport of the Fukumoto navel, which also tends to sport variegated branches? It's a very sweet navel orange. I have one in my orchard, so here's to hoping. So far, no variegation noticed on my Cara Cara, but I'm watching carefully Smile

No, not a Cara cara (which I have as well). It is a very good orange though.

Also, my variegated Cara cara rarely has a navel either...

Interesting. I think this must be the nature of variegated navel oranges. Navel oranges are a bit more persnickety than other oranges and citrus in general. Maybe their variegated counterparts are even less vigorous. Now, my variegated Calamondins are great little trees, and very, very prolific producers. Betting this is a variegated Fukumoto navel. Fits the description of the Kukumoto, just variegated.
