Hello all.

My name is James, I am from League City, TX(About 45 minutes north of John Panzarella). I am 24 years old and I just bought my first house a year ago. I bought a few citrus trees but quickly became a citruholic.

I have a Meyer Lemon, Owari, Oroblanco, Ruby Red, Duncan, Wekiwa, Minneola, Moro, Sunquat and Clementine. Here's to hoping they survive the winter! I have my hands full, but I like jumping into things head on so I have to learn quickly.

I am really interested in creating new hybrids, I like reading the cultivars forum the best. Right now I have a mystery citrus I just germinated in a pot, it came out of the fruit on the Minneola I bought, I've gotten 4 seedlings from it. Hopefully they are not Nucellar embyros or poly-embryonic. At least I think thats how it works, right? I guess we'll see once it gets it first few true leaves.

Nice to see a fellow Texas resident here in the forum. There's not alot of hybrid talk here but I think lemandarinquat is creating some hybrids he might be someone you would want to get in touch with.

I am a long, longggg way away from being an expert and this is my first hybrid attempt but fingers crossed I get something out of it. I'm still waiting for the cross-pollinated fruit to develop to maturity, it's refusing to grow at the moment! My thread is here:

Yeah I plan on it lol, I think my first hybridization attempt will be with Oroblanco as the pollinator. For now though all I have is my mystery Minneola Tangelo x ??? Seedlings which are about a week old at the moment.
We shall see... we shall see. I think it was sitting with a bunch of blood oranges at the nursery I got it from. Who knows though, because it could have just arrived there and had been pollinated beforehand. I guess the only thing I can do is wait and see if the seedlings have any tell-tale physical traits as to their parentage.

You're welcome. Growing citrus is very addictive. I hope your Minneola seedlings prove to be interesting. I read they need a pollenizer to give better yields, which also makes them seedier. Hopefully yours will prove to be some nice hybrids. I have seedlings from store bought Owari satsumas and Robinson tangerines. The Owari is supposed to be seedless, so hopefully the presense of seeds means it was cross pollinated with a different variety, which will give hybrids. The Robinson is much like the Minneola. We have a long wait to see what we get lol.

The Oroblanco sounds like a good choice for a hybrid attempt. Keep us posted when you try it.
