Here is my loaded miho satsuma I planted in 2000. It has lots of fruit but almost all is puffy and dry. You would think a satsuma this age would have good quality fruit but no such luck. I have several other mandarins and they produced good quality fruit much faster. I have the same problem with all of my satsuma trees. This one was an un-named variety and about age 3 or 4 I topworked to miho. Rootstock is trifoliate.

Phil, you can pick Satsumas before the stage that your fruit are at now. Satsumas are mature before they turn orange. I read either in one of my books, or perhaps on the Internet, I cannot remember which, that Satsuma's become puffy when they are held on the tree too long. I do remember, that when I read it, I thought of you, as you posted this same topic last year. However, I don't remember it saying that they become dry. - Millet (465-)

If all of your Satsumas have this problem, I would say it's a soil issue or something you're doing.
