EEEEYUK Is that a slug up close? Ned, you should sell that to National Geographic. What a good pic!

Orange Dog... They eat the hell out of citrus leaves. They turn into Swallowtail butterflies, but they don't make it that far in my yard.

Patty, This is a most fascinating creature. When small it is designed to look just like bird poop. (Come to think about it, when large, it just looks like big bird poop!) This is a great defense against being eaten by birds (or anything else for that matter). If you disturb one, it will stick out it's threatening looking red "tongue". Plus, it will emit a foul odor that resembles - guess what! You got it - poop.

I normally spray when I see them, but I provided this one with a one gallon seedling I had, and put it in a safe place. I wanted to watch it become a butterfly. It disappeared after a couple of days. I am not sure if something got it, or it crawled off someplace to make the transition in private. I am sure I will get another try, they pop (one "o" Wink ) up pretty often here. If I see a butterfly, I will post it's picture also.

Thanks Ned, I think it was AT hagan in Fl who first mentioned orange dog..I never heard of it. Was wondering what that orange thing was. How interesting. Good thing they hate winter here. They are uglier than bird poop!

ERRRRR!!!! Orange Dog!! Kill, Crush, Destroy!!
Sorry, lost my head for a second. I have done this twice now. A Swallowtail butterfly was fluttering around my citrus. I followed it and every time it landed and laid an egg, I made quick work of it and destroyed it. If I could of gotten a hold of the butterfly, I have plenty of lizards that looked kind of hungry.
Nasty little buggers. I just don't like them.
