In the south, which satsumas are the earliest to ripen? and approximately when? Mine are not quite at fruit bearing age, these are what I have:
St Anne
Owari
Miho Wase
Changsha (I know its not really a satsuma...)

I am planning to get a kishu in the near future (when do they ripen?) . Is there any other early variety worth trying? Are there varieties which are more cold tolerant than others?
Lots of questions.

Thanks, Greg

Greg the St Anne & LA Early are some of the earliest ripening Satsumas.

I have armstrong early, big early, miho, and kishu. The armstrong and big early are pretty early, edible but not peak here in SE Texas around October 1st. Miho and kishu aren't particularly early. But, early fruit also means early blooming, like in February before the last frost, something not good in marginal climates. One year the armstrong early bloomed and a late frost killed the blooms. It bloomed again. Early here also means more problems with the dreaded stink bugs ruining all the fruit

Anybody know where Brown's Select falls on the ripening schedule?

Greg, know that the maturing season in Texas, Louisiana and through out the southern sections of the USA could have very little to do with how they will perform in southern Canada. - Millet

Millet, I know that my results will be significantly different than in the south. The problem is that there are not many tinkering with citrus in northern zone 8s. I just wanted yardstick to (metre stick Laughing ) measure with. I suspect that I will have to wait till December or later for fruit to be ready.

And I forgot about my Browns Select - I have one of those too.

Mr Texas, our climate has changed significantly since you lived in Washington in the 70s. we do not get the cold spells like we used to. The last really big and prolonged freeze was in 1989. We are not citrus growing area just yet - but it is predicted to be mainstream here in the Lower Fraser Valley (PNW) by the middle of the century.

All the input is appreciated!
Thanks, Greg

Never heard of Satsuma wase (early) miyamoto?
Might be the earliest among the early type.
