I just grabbed a lemon from the fridge that was bought at the grocery store. Ate it, cut out the seeds, and planted them! I'm ot sure what kind of lemon it was.
Sprouted around June 20th
Pro-Mix soil
I havent givin them any ferts/nutes yet
Some look much better than others. I will only keep the most healthy ones.
How they are looking? What should my next step should be?

Most of what I see there is not citrus--or at least I don't know of any citrus with fuzzy leaves. The small dark green plant does look like citrus.
Most store bought lemons are Eureka or Lisbon and do grow true. _________________ Skeet

Really ??? Those are definitely 100% lemons! I germinated the seeds directly from the lemon into a wet paper towel and planted them in soil as soon as they showed a little white sprout!! I guess I will just keep growing them to see what happens. |

Yeah, I definitely agree with what everyone else has said. The couple dark green seedlings are definitely citrus, and the other lighter fuzzy seedlings definitely are not. |

The fuzzy seedlings appear like Datura Stramonium seedlings aka Jimson weed, a very invasive plant in Pennsylvania. They are often grown by the Amish, have a mounded bush-like growth habit, and produce huge tubular white flowers that open at night (and smell heavenly). Their seed pods have spikes and are about 4-6 cm diameter, and the leaves, stems and seeds are, let us say, unsafe for human or animal consumption.
Does this sound like anything that grows around you? The seeds are flat. slightly meatier that tomato seeds. I pull weeds looking like those constantly. I used to grow them until I learned of their toxic nature, and stopped because I have children, animals, and my property adjoins a park.

Barbara, they do look like Datura. I grew datura one year and it took me 2 or 3 years of constant hoeing out, to finally get rid of them. Extremely invasive. However, I also think they look like egg plant seedlings. But ??????? - Millet (918-) |

Ah hah! the mystery is solved! When I planted the lemon seeds into the soil, I waited until they sprouted and assumed they were lemons. I didnt think that the pro-mix I used could have been contaminated with the Jimsom weed seeds.
So all this time I have been taking care of Jimson weed thinking they were lemons haha
Today I just got rid of all the weeds and replanted the lemon sprouts into 4 inch square containers. I have 4 lemon sprouts!
Phew! I'm Glad that is cleared up. Thanks all of you for the input and advice!!
I will keep you posted on the growth of the LEMONS!! |
