Are there any citron (citrus medica) varieties that are worth growing? I'm not talking about the buddha's hand here...

Depends of what you expect, citrus medica is grown for ornamental purpose, ritual purpose (sukkot) and to prepare candied peel.

Yes, but as grandparents used to say, repetition is the mother of wisdom.

But to add something new:
you can flavour hard drink with leaves, - popular in Greece, or prepare ancient recipe (Calabria) - "Panicelli di cedro"

Main commercial sour variety in Italy is "Cedro Liscia Diamante" - smooth Diamante citron.
Vozza vozza is the less acid, lumpy sicilian cultivar.
Very nice picture on Roberto page:

This almost looks like a merdeka lime! Smile Definitely a nice fruit...

Very nice Laaz! But I'm reluctant to grow any variegated citrus after experiencing problems with a pink eureka lemon. A regular diamante seems like a good choice if it has good quality fruit.

There are two choices to choose from, depending on whether you want to grow a Citron from the sweet citron group, or if you would rather grow a citron from the acid citron group.

The best Citron from the sweet group is the Corsican, and the best Citron from the acid citron group is the Diamante.

Many people prefer the Diamante due to the 1 inch thick rind that is tender and highly flavored.

Of course there is always the Etrog. The Etrog is a small citron, the fruits of which are used by the Jewish people in the ceremonies connected with the Feast of Tabernacles, If you ever grow an Etrog it is considered important to use only those grown on their own stocks, not grafted. -Millet
