Hi,

A search with "seed storage" reply only with one thread Sad

I collected my Flying Dragon fruits and I have almost 200 of them.
Unfortunately, I am still waiting for my rootmaker plates and it will take at least a month to get them.

So, do I have to take the seeds out or can I keep the fruits in the refrigerator?

If I take the seeds out, how should I keep them?
I read that I need to wash them with water, then left them to dry on a paper towel. Then I need to spray a fungisit and put them in the refrigerator. Is that all?

Thanks,

That is the recomended way to store them, but you will loose some viability even with a month of storage. I would try to leave them in the fruit as long as there is no deterioration of the fruit. You can also start the germination process on a plate with a moist paper towel covered with plastic wrap. In a cool place (65-70 F) it will probably take at least a month for germination. Even at 85 F it will probably take 2-3 weeks.

The plate with a moist paper towel is how I started my FD seeds last winter--- I transferred them to potting soil as soon as I saw the root emerge 5-10 mm.

Thanks Skeeter,

Viability is not very important in this case, I have much more seeds than I need.
I will germinate around 600 seeds so plates will not be practical.I have plates for seed germination, np.

So I will keep the fruits as long as I can then I will get the seeds.

Best,

Yes Lazz Smile Fruits are a little bit small, I get 30 seeds per fruit, it will make 5000-6000 seeds. There are friends asking for some seeds but still the amount is huge Smile
