I inhereted a lime tree from my dad about a two years ago. He had it for about 5 years and said it only fruited once - I'm pretty sure he had it in the shade. I repotted in Sept 2010 and it grew like crazy but has never flowered. About a month ago we noticed sappy-ness at the base of the stem. The plant itself looks healthy. Can anyone tell me what this is....and how to fix it?

I think these are the links to the pictures I uploaded. The tree looks wet b/c I just sprayed Fung-onil on it....but you can see the sap at the bottom.

Thank you for your help!

Looks like Foot rot. Limes are very easy to root, take some cuttings from the top of the tree & root a new one. I find limes like to be kept on the dry side.

You might quickly use Aliette (fosetyl aluminium) otherwise your citrus will die.
You also can dry the wound with bordeaux mixture but anyway you have to treat with Aliette.

Thank you both for the advice. I am going to both try to save the tree using S's guidelines and root some cuttings just in case.

Fingers crossed!
