It does not amaze me any more what people will do. I have not been to Twickel. but I have been to Het Loo. At the time I visited Het Loo, I did not know of the existence of Twickel. I had a nice time in the country, very friendly people. I was there in conjunction with the flower business. - Millet (157 to go-)

That is just plain awful, and for what? What purpose did that serve? I really wonder about this old world some days. Sad

This reminds me a bit of the Endicott Pear tree in Danvers, Massachusetts. It's believed to be the oldest cultivated fruit tree in North America. It was planted in the 1630's or 40's and "on July 27, 1964, vandals cut off the tree's branches and all but 6 ft (1.8 m) of its trunk using hacksaws". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endicott_Pear_Tree
Fortunately that tree recovered.

Probably some stupid kids did this. Most kids have no respect towards plants and animals.

I really enjoyed my visit to Twickel.
Very sad to hear about the damage.
Grad - do you have any links to pictures or text (Dutch is OK) about the vandalism?

Anymore? The Endicott thing was 50 years ago.

People have always had no respect for anything but their own property.
