Hi,

My father-in-law asked me to look for China 7 and China 9 varieties.I couldn't find much info on web, do you know any nursery selling budwoods of these varieties?

Or can you direct me to any link about these varieties? Search engines are not talented enough to seperate "china" and "7" words in millions of pages Smile

Thanks

These are Satsuma selections from China.

Since these are relatively new, here's some tidbits of information from the various links pointing to results of various trials, mostly in California:

http://ceriverside.ucdavis.edu/newsletterfiles/Topics_in_Subtropics7546.pdf

google for China Satsuma S-9 and you will get useful information on the first page of the search result.

"China S-2 and China S-9, China #6 and China #7 –Reported to be cold hardy varieties from Hubai Province, PRC and imported by Dr. H. Huang of Auburn University. " - Kahn

From the early trials, it is easy to remember why S-7 and S-9 were assigned as it correlated with their Solubles to Acid Ratios:
Miyagawa: approx 12
S-7: approx 7
S-9: approx 9

Average number of seeds:
S-7: 0.1 seeds/fruit
S-9: 0.4 seeds/fruit

fruit size:
S-7: small: 5 cm
S-9: medium: 5.4 cm

Soluble solids:
Miyagawa: approx 6.2
S-7: approx 7.4
S-9: approx 7.2

The China Satsuma S-9 is publicly available for order in the early release budwood program of CCPP. With you in Turkey, that could be a problem.

I have my buds of S-9 sprouting already and would take about 18 months from this summer to get fruit from it.

Thanks a lot JoeReal.
I will read both pdf files as soon as possible.
It is always same, all interesting varieties are in the program, you are right, we will not be able to have that varieties soon but no problem.

Anyway, soluble solid and acid ratios are good I guess.
I hope you will write your own experiences in the forum when you will have your fruits in 18 months.
