I grew both of them when I was a kid. They are tropical plants.
The one on the right is tamarind. The one on the left is called "kamatsile". in local language. |

I looked up Kamatsile in Dave's Garden & it's not found. The Tamarind is there. I'll try for a better pic & maybe post it on that Plant ID site Gina posted. Thanks _________________ Patty

'Kamatsili 'is not in the English language. It is a tagalog word. Joe,Help.
Tamarind and kamatsili can grow up to 20 feet if grown on the grown. They grow everywhere because kids loved them and toss the seeds all over the place. |

Tamarind can be very sweet or very sour. You can buy them in any Mexican produce fresh. In fact if you buy them you can grow the seeds.
When I was a kid I build a garden of tomatoes under the tamarind tree. Surprisingly I harvest the tomatoes even there were tamarind roots all over the place. Our tamarind tree was very sweet so other kids stole the fruit. |

Patty, That is not a cassia that I grow. It has more leaflets than either of my cassias. Maybe it is a Tamarind. The description seems to fit. |

Hi Patty. Yes it does. They get 6 ft tall down here. I have also seen the tree you are talking about. It has hundreds of pods & purple flower... Still looks like a big weed... But then again I think Crape Myrtle trees are big weeds... |

The 'weed' I posted does not get tall. It is ground cover...gotta pull them out by hand. Nasty stuff. _________________ Patty
