never thought to cut it down laaz, its in a fork may not get all of it but it'll help. after that ill leave it alone.

I have had issues in the past where sap was flowing in the winter & we had a hard freeze. The bark would split open and theres not much you can do. I just cut the affected area off & they push new growth in the spring.

Laaz's suggestion may be a good one: it does not sound like a good idea to let that scar go into winter and it, most likely, won't have time to heal before freeze if left alone.

Guess, garden stores have those pruning sealants on the shelves for folks like me, who still believe in them. Laughing Laughing
