I went to Florida to visit inlaws for the holidays. Before I did, I checked weatherchannel.com for the five day low temp forecast. 35...34...41...43...38...
I'm thinking no problem....put em' against the SE brick wall water em' well.
35...22...24...27...35
I'm thinking I might have a problem...sticks of mush against a SE brick wall.
Those temps are Chas. airport( a little inland).
My big thornless Key Lime in a barrel suffered some very slight leaf burn and that was it! Thermal mass radiation saved my bacon!
Why orange you at home covering your trees, and sitting in the grove singing the blues??????????

Best wishes for a great 2006 to all!!!......Scott

Winter traveling is always a problem this way. If I close up the hoophouse completely to protect the tenderest stuff from frost it'll be bright and sunny when I'm gone and they'll all be cooked. If I leave it open enough to keep the day time temperature from cooking everything it'll go to twenty five one night and they'll all freeze. My wife says she refuses to make any more travel plans based on the five day forecast!

Summer's not much better. Just because the hurricane was heading away when I left doesn't mean it can't turn around and head back towards the house while I'm gone.

.....Alan (the perils of gardening!).
