what do you sugest for grafting paw-paw's? I have some wild paw-paw's planted in my yard, they are in the second year now and they were only 2 feet tall. I have bought sereral different kinds that are 4 years old, they have bloomed but no fruit. Is bud grafting o.k, they are just now leaving-out(10th april). Joe Real tutorial was of great help for my grafting of asian persimmon. I just finish 28 grafts today on native ones. I have about 60 or more of the natives persimmon's in my backyard. I followed his tutorial as excact as possible and hope now to bring my grafting luck up to 90. That would be nice!

Nope, T budding won't work for pawpaws. I use chip budding with good success. You need dormant budwood collected in February and stored in the refrigerator and wait until the rootstock is leafing out to graft.

I got some dormant budwood from a friend in LA & just grafted them onto my 2 Paw Paws other day. I'll have to look up chip budding, but I did cleft/wedge grafts which I have been lucky with for apple & loquat. I also grafted a Anna apple to the Paw Paw just to see if it takes LOL.

the anna apple grafted to pawpaw will not work they are not even close related. grafting apples to apples or quince is basically the grafting rules even though loquats are related to apples i dought they would be graft compatable either.

Hi Mikey, don't I know you from the brug forum? WELCOME!!
It was either throw the budstick out or find something to graft it on.
"no failures, only learning experiences" LOL
