I recently got a Citrumelo plant because of the hardiness, but I'm new to the variety and still have some questions about it.

I noticed on the forum that there is a "Swingle" Citrumelo, but there are also other varieties. What are the differences between the varieties?

The label on my plant says that it is a cross between Poncirus Trifoliata and Citrus Paradisi. Is this the Swingle Citrumelo?

At what age is this plant supposed to start producing flowers/fruits? My plant is about 1 meter tall. I have no idea about it's age.

What do the fruits taste like?

Can a Citrumelo be considered a true Citrus plant? As I understand it, the Poncirus Trifoliata is considered a Citrus relative but (to some) not a true Citrus...?

I know it's a lot of questions to ask, but I'd love to get to know more about this plant! Wink

There are several posts about Citrumelo, in this HARDY CITRUS topic and others too. Here is one from Hamburg, Germany which might be helpful to your location ?
link

There are at least several Citrumelos, SWINGLE; SACATON(YUMA); CITRUMELO 1452; DUNSTAN;
Fruiting will depend upon if you have a seedling, or a grafted plant.
In my climate, Swingle fruit are far better than Poncirus, something like a dull grapefruit flavor, with a fair hint of Poncirus flavor. The juice is ok for interests sake, I would say quite acceptable, but not comparable to common Citrus.

Swingle is reported to be a Poncirus X Grapefruit hybrid, commonly used as a rootstock. Not sure if others are all the same cross, or if any are Pummelo hybrids ?

Thanks for your reply.
I have been searching the forums for "citrumelo" but didn't read the thread you mentioned yet, which is quite informative.

In the mean time I also found this PDF, which is very informative also:
http://www.sepalms.org/Publications/Hardy%20Citrus%20sample.pdf

It appears to be meant for booklet printing as the pages aren't ordered for reading.

I tasted the Swingle citrumelo at last years citrus expo - the seeds were used in Stan McKenzie's seed spitting competition. They weren't as horrible tasting as I was led to believe. Definitely not grocery store fruit but a worth plant to grow outside the traditional citrus growing areas.

I have been told that the Dunstan citrumelo is MUCH better. Additionally I have a un- named pomello - poncirus trifoliata cross. it has huge trifoliate leaves with a with a large petiole. It produce one fruit last year which is still on the tree - (I don't think the fruit matured)
