I have several dwarf trees in containers that I was hoping would become tall enough to form a privacy hedge or wall. I'm not sure they'll get that tall. I was hoping to have a privacy wall made of citrus trees about 6-8 feet tall.

Would I have been better off getting standard sized trees? These trees will be in containers. How tall will standard containerized citrus trees get and what's the maximum height that I can get from containerized dwarf citrus trees?

Having a citrus tree in a container will reduce growth--using dwarf rootstock will increase that effect.

I've seen standard sized citrus trees at Home Depot that were around 6-7 feet tall in pots. Were those trees in those pots all that time? Do you think they've reached or are near their maximum height?

Hilltop,
My uncle in Italy has standard citrus in big pots and they look like bush plants as they don't really have a trunk but rather 3 or 4 main branches and the they are trained to grow on hoops so the center of trees are hollow and foliage and fruit is mostly on outside and these trees get over 5 feet tall

No, they were potted up several times along the way. They will continue to grow slowly, but not that much unless they are moved to even larger containers.

When a Citrus tree's root system, or for that matter, any type of tree, grows to occupy all of the available space in a container, thus becoming root bound, the tree will begin growing straight up with little or no side branching in a columnar, or tubular in shape. Much the same as tooth paste squeezed out of its tube. For a full bodied, rounded tree, transplanting into a larger container must be done on a timely basis. - Millet (942-)
