I am not sure anyone is going to believe this but I am going tell about it anyway. The picture is a Satsuma budded on Troyer. Bud date was 03-20-06. The hard to believe part is that I took the budwood on
02-14-05!
I cut the budwood when I was gathering wood for spring budding last year. In September, 2005, I realized it was still in the frig and still looked viable so, as an experiment, I used it to bud a few trees. When several took without a problem, I decided to hold the wood until spring and try again. This is the result. It was slow to start growing, but looks fine at this point.
I have heard of apple budwood that took after two years, but have never heard or read how long it might be possible to keep citrus. I doubt you could keep Satsuma seed this long!
